#024 TRANSFER FEVERS TO FROGS

BOOK 7, CHAPTER 16

The following two chants aim at treating fever using frogs (mand`uuka). The frogs are kept under the cot on which the patient lies down. Water enriched by chanting the two verses is sprinkled on the patient, so as to fall on the frogs beneath.

The idea is the fevers both "hot and cold" should get transferred from the patients to the frogs through the enchanted water.

VERSE 116 ( 7-10-116 )
GIST
I salute the hot fever which produces sweats and shivers. I salute the cold fever which breaks the past longings for desires.

VERSE 117 ( 7-10-117 )
GIST
Let all the fevers which (1) recur everyday (2) every two days (3) without any definite schedule, catch and pervade on the FROG.

Nam=oo ruuraayaa Cyavanaaya naadanaaya dhrusht`av=ee
Nam=aha s`iitaaya puurva k=aama-akritvanee.

KAAND`A 7, ANUVAAKAM 10, VERSE 117
Yoo a=nyeed yuru= bhyad yura bhyeeti imam
Mand`uuk=am abhiyeet avrataha.


The places marked with = have a stress at higher level (udaatta). The chants are to be sung by using special musical tones to be learnt from a competent teacher.
